Background and qualifications
Maxim Trube holds a diploma in human medicine from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) in Moscow.
He does not hold a German medical licence (Approbation) and does not practise medicine in Germany.
That training is why the physiology on this website is taken seriously, and why the material is built on the underlying science rather than on training folklore. It does not make anything offered here medical care.
What this website is
The content here — articles, training guides, illustrations and educational material on endurance performance, nutrition and health — is general information and education about training. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not tailored to any individual's health circumstances.
Nothing on this website, in the library, in Zones or in a consultation constitutes medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Guidance on training, recovery, nutrition and injury prevention is based on sports science, professional experience and current best practice in endurance training.
Using this website, Zones or a consultation does not create a doctor-patient or therapeutic relationship.
Zones is not a medical device
Zones calculates estimated training zones from time-trial data you enter. It does not diagnose, treat, monitor, prevent or predict any disease or condition, and it is not intended to.
The values it returns are estimates of quantities that laboratory testing would measure directly. They depend entirely on the quality of the efforts behind them, and Zones cannot tell when those efforts were flawed.
How you feel takes priority over what the screen says. If a session at a calculated intensity feels wrong, it is wrong. Stop or ease off.
Consultations are performance advice
Consultations provide sports performance advice. They do not include diagnosis, treatment, assessment of medical symptoms, or interpretation of medical or clinical findings.
If a medical issue arises during a consultation, we will stop and refer you to your own doctor.
Consult a healthcare professional
Always seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional about any medical condition, training programme, dietary change or health concern. Never disregard or delay seeking professional medical advice because of something you have read here.
Risks of endurance training
Endurance sport and intense physical exercise carry real risks, including serious injury and, in rare cases, cardiac events.
Before you start a new training programme, significantly increase your training load, or perform maximal or near-maximal efforts, you should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional to establish that it is appropriate for you.
This applies particularly if you:
- have any existing medical condition
- experience symptoms during exercise
- are returning after a long break
- are over 35
Stop exercising immediately if you experience chest pain, unusual breathlessness, dizziness, faintness or any other concerning symptom, and seek medical advice.
Maximal testing, of the kind Zones asks for, is intense by design. Treat it accordingly: warm up properly, choose a suitable and safe course, and do not test when you are ill, injured or exhausted.
You decide whether and how to apply anything on this website to your own training. Train within your limits, take your body seriously, and tell us about any medical condition or concern that is relevant before a consultation.
Emergencies
Our services are not suitable for urgent or emergency situations. If you have a medical emergency, stop training and contact emergency services or a healthcare provider immediately.
Accuracy of content
We research our content carefully and update it as the evidence changes. Even so, sports science evolves, individual responses vary widely, and no training guidance suits everyone. Free content on this website is provided without any assurance as to completeness or suitability for your circumstances.
For paid content and services, your statutory rights under German law apply in full and are not restricted by this statement.
No guarantee of results
Performance depends on many things, including your commitment, consistency, starting fitness and health. We give structured, evidence-based guidance. We cannot guarantee particular results.
